Our Team

Convite Mezcal was founded by an Oaxacan economist, Jorge Vera, and is distilled by sixth-generation master distillers and brothers Daniel & Tucho (aka Cosme) Herández, who continue to produce mezcal according to artisanal traditions. Prioritizing community and sustainability from the start, the Convite team works hard to preserve the wild agaves that give its expressions their complex flavors and ensure that its community benefits from Convite's growing popularity.

Jorge Vera

Dr. Jorge Vera is a Oaxacan businessman with a PhD in economics from the London School of Economics. Having devoted part of his professional career to collaborating with the Mexican government, he later decided to return to Oaxaca and begin the “Mezcal Convite” project in 2013, which sought to act as the reference point for the promotion of mezcal culture. He is currently an active member of the mezcal community in Oaxaca and is president of the prestigious Clúster del Mezcal.

MEZCAL MAESTROS

Daniel and Tucho Hernández come from an age-old family of mezcaleros, with a heritage going back at least six generations. These two brothers task themselves with taking care of the ancestral land on which they harvest their agaves and are local pioneers in cultivating varieties that previously only grew in the wild. Working side by side, they put their deep respect and experience into each batch of their handcrafted mezcal.
